Having lived in Hawaii for 10 years, I can say that Maui has some of the most striking and diverse landscapes in the Hawaiian Islands. 

From bamboo rainforests and picturesque waterfalls to expansive white-sand beaches and a moonscape-like, dormant volcano, Maui is undeniably one of the most beautiful places in the country. But, pair all of that with an abundance of award-winning luxury hotels, locally sourced cuisine, and rich cultural experiences, and it’s no surprise that the Valley Isle was ranked as one of our readers’ favorite islands in the world, and their favorite Hawaiian island in Travel + Leisure’s 2025 World’s Best Awards.

Of my 10 years spent in Hawaii, I lived in Maui for six of them. During that time, I was able to explore the island in its entirety—from the “must-do” activities and attractions to secret spots that only residents know about. Its rich culture, gorgeous views, and aloha spirit will always make Maui a special place to me.
