Work With Me

If you are a DMO or a PR rep for a hotel, attraction or gear company, I’d love to work with you! Please read these guidelines before sending me a pitch.

The best way to pitch me is to subscribe to my free media newsletter to see what content I’m in need of. I also include links to my recently published articles, so you can see if your content was included.

Tips for Working With Me

What I Do Cover:
Topics: Wellness, Adventure, Luxury, Sustainability, Winter Sports.

What I Don’t Cover:
Destinations I do not typically cover include:
Texas, Florida, Jamaica, Dominican Republic.

Topics I do not typically cover: Bachelorette parties, honeymoons, food and wine, wine tasting, family travel.

I tend to give priority to businesses that have sustainability initiatives currently in place. Please note that in your pitches.

As a travel journalist for mainstream media, I don’t cover one-off events, since my coverage wouldn’t get published until after the event is over – and I would assume you would want coverage before the event to entice people to go to the event. The exception is for me to attend an event for coverage prior to the event, the following year.

Who I Pitch:
Here are the publications I’ve written for. I will pitch to whichever ones I think the story angle will be the best fit for.

U.S. News & World Report does not accept pitches. I am assigned those articles and I never know what they are going to me.

Press Trips:
I typically book my press trips about three months in advance. I do occasionally get a last-minute openings in my schedule, but if you are asking me to attend a trip that takes place in a month, its likely that I won’t be able to attend.

For full disclosure, when attending a press trip, editorial coverage is not guaranteed, but I will work hard to find angles that will resonate with my editors and readers, and will pitch the destination/hotel for up to one year after my visit.

As a freelancer, I typically don’t get an assignment prior to a press trip. since I won’t know what my angle will be without having experienced it firsthand. I typically pitch after I get back, so that I have a full understanding of what angle would work best for a specific publication, based on my experience at the destination/resort, rather than going with the angle that the PR rep suggests. But I can assure you that, rather than having one confirmed assignment, I look at this as a long-term relationship that could result in multiple articles over a 12-month period.

For transparency, if I attend a comped press trip (either group or individual), I cannot guarantee a positive review of the resorts, restaurants, or activities, since that would go against journalism ethics. My review will be based solely on my personal experience while visiting the destination.

In addition to publishing articles for websites, magazines and newspapers, while on a press trip, I will also do several social media stories, posts, and reels on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and Pinterest.

I am a vegetarian and I don’t drink alcohol – I gave up alcohol when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. I do,  however, love a good mocktail! So, I’m not always the best journalist to cover food and wine. I do cover wine country spas and accommodation though.

Good to Know:

If a press release does not state the city, state, and country (other than US), of a destination or hotel, in the first paragraph, I will not continue reading it. I realize that the person writing the press release knows where the destination is located, but it might not be clear to me (it’s a big world!). I get so many emails, I won’t have the time to look up where the destination is located, to see if it’s a good fit for me to write about. Please make it easy for me to write about what you’re pitching.
